Sylvia Ray Rivera (July 2, 1951 – February 19, 2002)[4] was a Latina American gay liberation[5] and transgender rights activist[6] significant in the LGBT history of New York City and of the United States as a whole. Some claim Rivera, who identified as a drag queen, was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front.
